A. Maximum building height limit in the R-1 districts shall be thirty feet for main buildings and sixteen feet for accessory buildings not intended for living purposes, except that approval by the site and architectural design review board shall be obtained prior to the construction of any accessory building over twelve feet in height, or if any portion within five feet of any lot line is over ten feet in height. Any action taken by the site and architectural design review board may be appealed, in writing, to the planning commission within ten days of such action. Any action taken by the planning commission may be appealed, in writing, to the city council within ten days of such action.

B. The maximum building heights for accessory dwelling units shall be governed by the provisions of Section 17.42.040.

C. The maximum building heights for public and quasi-public uses and buildings, including churches, firehouses, hospitals, parks and playgrounds, community or recreational centers, schools (public and parochial), or schools accredited to the state school system and public utility buildings and uses exclusive of corporate, storage or repair yards is forty feet.
