“Private open space” means outdoor area either at ground level or on a balcony, deck, or atrium which is appurtenant to and contiguous with a dwelling unit and designed for the exclusive use of the occupants of that dwelling unit with a minimum horizontal dimension of not less than five feet except as otherwise required by this code.
